Free Fall Apparatus

This Apparatus is used to measure the time of fall of a steel ball to determine the value of ‘g”.

How to use :-


  • Fix the rod on the stand.
  • Now put the mechanical gate on the rod at lower end near base.
  • And then the coil as the upper end.
  • Connect the fates and coil tothe timer on the points provided. Respective of colors with the connecting leads.
  • Switch on the supply.
  • Switch the centi second timer to magnetize and fix the steel ball on the coil.
  • Now when the ball is magnetizing switch the timer to demagnetize the ball will release and cross the gate and the timer is shown on the display.
  • Now our free fall apparatus is ready to use.

 

Precaustions :-


  • Connect the connecting leads to the timer tightly.
  • Carefully adjust the distance between the gate and the coil.
  • Clean the apparatus neatly after use.
  • Reset the timer every time.

Specimen Mounting Press

This machine is used for mounting the metallographic and petrographic specimens in suitable plastic and Bakelite medium so as to make them convenient for handling in the subsequent polishing operation as well as for edge retention. The unit has a robust construction and is activated by a hydraulic press of capacity 8 tons. The unit is provided with pressure gauge for observing the pressure while mounting (Maximum pressure is 6000 lbs .sq. inch) and a thermometer cavity for mercury thermometer to read the temperature of molding.Specimen mounting press has concentric heating and cooling arrangement ensuring fast turn out of samples. The processing time per sample is about 25 minutes. Heating is by means of electrical band heaters thermostatically controlled and cooling by finned cast aluminium cooler. The press is supplied with a 1″ dia. Mold of alloy steel heat treated and internally ground 1.25″ and 1.5″ molds are available as additional accessories at extra cost and the same heater and cooler serve all the above sizes of mold  The unit operates on 220 Volts AC. painted in hammartone finish and chrome plated.

Izod Striker

Izod test specimens vary depending on what material is being tested. Metallic samples tend to be square in cross section, while polymeric test specimens are often rectangular, being struck parallel to the long axis of the rectangle.

Izod test sample usually have a V-notch cut into them, although specimens with no notch as also used on occasion.

The Izod test is has become the standard testing procedure for comparing the impact resistances of plastics. While being the standard for plastics it is also used on other materials.

The Izod test is most commonly used to evaluate the relative toughness or impact toughness of materials and as such is often used in quality control applications where it is a fast and economical test. It is used more as a comparative test rather than a definitive test. This is also in part due to the fact that the values do not relate accurately to the impact strength of moulded parts or actual components under actual operational conditions.
